The classic setup: your editor gets the most room, with a terminal and a browser beside it.
Set it up
Section titled “Set it up”- Open your editor first. It becomes the primary window and fills the screen.
- Open a terminal. The screen splits: editor on the left, terminal on the right.
- Open a browser. The right side splits: terminal on top, browser below.
┌───────────────┬───────────┐│ │ Terminal ││ Editor ├───────────┤│ │ Browser │└───────────────┴───────────┘If the windows ended up in a different order, swap them: with the editor active, press ⌃⌥↩ to make it primary.
Make it yours
Section titled “Make it yours”- Give the editor more room. Drag the line between the editor and the right column, or press ⌃⌥= a few times with the editor active. The size stays when you close and reopen the terminal.
- Zoom in to focus. Press ⌃⌥Z and the editor fills the screen. Press it again, or click the terminal, to go back.
- Hop between windows with ⌃⌥] and ⌃⌥[, without reaching for the mouse.
- Add a fourth window (docs, or a design file) with ⌃⌥⌘4 for a 2×2 grid.
Keep docs and chat close by
Section titled “Keep docs and chat close by”Open more windows than the screen holds and they join a stack in the tile you’re working in: your docs can wait behind the browser, Slack behind the terminal. Switch with ⌃⌥`, or press ⌥⇥ for Tab View to jump to any window.
