No peek mode

No peek mode fades every window except the one you’re working in, along with the desktop. It helps you concentrate, and it keeps people beside you, or watching a screen share, from reading your other windows.

  • Press ⌃⌥D, or
  • turn on No peek mode in the menu bar panel, or in Settings → Highlight.

Press ⌃⌥D again to turn it off.

The active window stays sharp and bright, along with anything its app shows on top of it, like sheets, popovers and menus. The menu bar and the Dock stay bright too. When you switch windows, the old one fades back and the new one comes forward. It works on every screen.

  • Dim amount sets how dark the other windows get, from 10% to 90% (50% by default). While No peek mode is on, the menu bar panel has the same slider.
  • Blur other windows (on by default) blurs them as well, so what’s in them can’t be read even at a light dim. Turn it off to keep them readable, just darker.
