Focus
Switch windows with the keyboard
Section titled “Switch windows with the keyboard”| Shortcut | What it does |
|---|---|
| ⌃⌥] | Activate the next tiled window |
| ⌃⌥[ | Activate the previous tiled window |
Windows are visited in layout order, starting from the primary.
Hover to focus
Section titled “Hover to focus”Turn on Hover focus in the menu bar panel, or Settings → Mouse → Activate windows on hover, and a tiled window becomes active when you rest the pointer on it, without clicking.
It’s designed not to surprise you:
- It waits a moment, so passing over windows on the way to another one doesn’t activate each of them.
- After you press a key, the pointer has to move before hovering takes over again. A pointer resting over another window won’t steal focus while you type or after ⌘⇥.
- Nothing changes while a mouse button is held, like during a drag or a text selection.
It’s off by default.
Focus mode
Section titled “Focus mode”Press ⌃⌥Z and the active window fills the screen, inside the usual gaps. The other windows stay exactly where they are underneath, so leaving focus mode moves only this one window back.
Focus mode ends when you:
- press ⌃⌥Z again,
- switch to another tiled window on that screen,
- open a window on that screen,
- use another layout shortcut on that screen, or
- drag the window.
While a window is zoomed, the menu bar panel marks it Focus, dims the others, and shows Focus mode in the status.
See which window is active
Section titled “See which window is active”Turn on a border or a glow to always see the active window at a glance. See Borders, glow and gaps. To fade everything else, use No peek mode.
Jump to any window
Section titled “Jump to any window”Tab View (⌥⇥) shows every window, screen by screen, so you can pick one.
