Settings

Open Settings from the menu bar panel (Settings, near the bottom), or press ⌘, while the panel is open. The sidebar lists the pages, and the search field at the top finds any setting by name.

Automatic tiling Arrange windows as they open and close. Turn off to pause. On

Setting What it does Default
Layout How windows share a wide screen: Grid (one big window, the rest beside it) or Columns (every window side by side). Tall screens always stack windows in rows. Grid
Windows per screen How many windows share a screen, 1 to 4. 3
When a screen is full Stack in the active tile (see Stacks) or Float in the middle. Stack in the active tile
Space between windows 0 to 24 pt, also used around the screen’s edges. 8 pt

Layout and Windows per screen are where every screen starts. To change them for one screen, use the menu bar panel or ⌃⌥⌘1–4: that screen keeps its choice, even after Shoji restarts. See How tiling works.

Setting What it does Default
Quick actions above windows Rest on the grip above a window for quick actions. On
Activate windows on hover Point at a window to make it active, no click needed. See Focus. Off

Always available, with nothing to turn on: Swap two windows (hold ⌘ and drag one onto another), Resize (drag the edge between two windows) and Move to another screen (drag a window onto it).

Keyboard shortcuts Arrange windows with ⌃ Control and ⌥ Option. On

Below the switch, every shortcut with its keys. If another app already uses some, a card says which and they’re dimmed. See Keyboard shortcuts.

Setting What it does
Don’t tile these apps Their windows stay wherever you put them. Add apps with Choose from Applications…. iPhone Mirroring is listed by default. See Floating and excluding windows.
Apps that can’t shrink Apps Shoji learned a smallest size for, with that size. Forget All clears the list. See Apps that won’t shrink.

How many windows Shoji placed for you this week, an estimate of the time it saved compared with dragging windows by hand, and the shortcuts you use most, with one to Try next. Numbers only, kept on this Mac: never window titles or app names.

Setting What it does Default
Count activity Turn off to stop counting; your numbers stay as they are. On
Reset activity Start every count again from zero.

Some choices live in the menu bar panel because they belong to one screen or one moment: the layout and window count for the screen you’re on, Retile, and Tile app name for the app in front.
